Interior
After entering through the front door, there was a small dining room to the left and a bar to the right. I found the décor at Creekside American Bistro to be quite unique, hip, and eccentric. While large windows allowed plenty of light in during the day, I found the interior to be somewhat dark with black ceilings, black Victorian-style wallpaper, and dark brown floors. It was dark on dark on dark.
While I visited for breakfast, I could imagine how cozy and inviting the dining room might be at night. Creekside American Bistro would be a great place for date night in Sedona.
Outdoor Deck
One of my favorite things about Creekside American Bistro is being able to dine on their outdoor deck, which also happens to be dog friendly for all the dog lovers out there. From the deck, the views of Sedona’s red rocks are just stunning, especially at sunset.
So if the weather is cooperating on your visit, I highly recommend you grab a seat on the outdoor deck. Just a word of warning, it can get hot, even in the shade, on those balmy summer days in Arizona.
Creekside American Bistro Menu
If you don’t know, Sedona can be an expensive city. While Creekside American Bistro is not the cheapest restaurant in Sedona, I consider their dishes well priced for the quality of their dishes which use locally sourced ingredients.
If you are a breakfast and brunch fan, then you will surely find something that catches your attention on the menu at Creekside American Bistro. The menu seemed to have it all including eggs Benedict, shrimp & grits, French toast, waffles, huevos rancheros, breakfast burrito, breakfast tacos, croissants, and more.
This was definitely one of the more exciting menus I encountered in Sedona.
Just a word of warning. The menu at Creekside American Bistro does and will change based on the season and what is fresh. So, some of the items listed above might not be available on your visit. But, that means other new items will take their place which I bet are just as delicious.
Creekside Eggs Benedict
First up was the Creekside Eggs Benedict ($17.00), one of my favorite breakfast items. This version was made with two poached eggs on English muffins, Canadian bacon, spinach, avocado, pico de gallo, black truffles, and hollandaise sauce. This wasn’t your typical eggs Benedict. On the side was a colorful medley of tender potato chunks with a side of ketchup.
The most important component of any eggs benedict dish are the eggs. Overcooked poached eggs without any runny yolk can ruin the dish.
Fortunately, when I cut through each egg with my knife, I was rewarded with an explosion of golden yolk. This yolk then mixed with the buttery, lemony hollandaise sauce resulting in a delicious rich sauce that flowed down onto the English muffin.
The thin slice of Canadian bacon was exactly what I was expecting. It was simple and rich with a salty and smoky taste after being pan fried until crispy and charred on the outside.
Complementing the rich flavors of the bacon, egg yolk, and hollandaise sauce were a few slices of creamy avocado, fresh spinach, and a colorful pico de gallo. The diced pico de gallo not only added color but added a crunchy texture to each bite.
The most unique part of the Creekside Eggs Benedict would have to be the thin slices of black truffles sprinkled over each egg. These black truffles, not something I encounter everyday, added a nutty and earthy flavor, similar to that of a mushroom.
Finally, you might not realize it, but the English muffin, just as with the eggs, plays a crucial role in the success of any eggs Benedict. The perfect muffin should be just the right thickness, not too thick or thin. If it’s too thick, it can be difficult to cut through with a knife. If it’s too thin, it can fall apart.
The muffin should be lightly toasted and crunchy, resulting in the perfect base for the mixture of egg yolk and hollandaise sauce which will cover it. And finally, the muffin should be soft and moist on the inside. This muffin checked off all of those boxes.
Shrimp & Grits
Next us was the Shrimp & Grits ($19.00). This Southern staple was made with gulf white shrimp, crispy pork belly, cheesy grits, buttery leeks, green onions, and a spicy red chili hot sauce.
With how expensive shrimp can be, I was expecting only a few small pieces of shrimp but this was not the case. The amount of gulf white shrimp packed into this dish was unexpected. Each plump piece of shrimp was cooked to perfection until tender on the inside. Even though I was in the middle of Arizona, and not near an ocean, I found the shrimp to be fresh with a sweet and salty flavor.
The most unique part of this dish would have to be the crispy pork belly. The small chunks of maple glazed pork belly just melted in my mouth. Each caramelized piece of salty, smoky, sweet pork was unbelievably tender with the perfect amount of flavorful, fatty goodness.
I would have never thought to pair pork belly with shrimp, but this made sense as the pork complemented the fresh shrimp, rich sauce, and cheesy grits. Now if I can just figure out how to make this at home.
I am not an expert on Southern cuisine, but I don’t believe this was your traditional shrimp and grits. This version of shrimp and grits served at Creekside American Bistro was more refined. It was light on the grits and heavy on the sauce.
Depending on your preferences, this wasn’t necessarily a bad thing as the sauce was delicious, reminding me of a thinner, more rich hollandaise sauce.
But for me, I would have preferred less sauce and more thick, smooth, creamy cheesy grits. Being a shrimp and grits dish, I was expecting more grits. As for the grits, they were fluffy and moist with a buttery, cheesy flavor
Finally, drizzled over the plate was a touch of spicy red chili hot sauce, which I believe was just Sriracha. Sriracha makes everything better and this was no different. Though simple and easy to overlook, the spicy red chili hot sauce complemented the salty shrimp, sweet pork, and rich, buttery sauce.
Service
On my visit to Sedona, all of the restaurants I visited had great service. With that said, I would probably rate Creekside American Bistro as having the best service I encountered. The servers were fantastic. Throughout the meal, servers would constantly walk by the table asking if I needed anything and refilling drinks.
Also, being a busy weekend morning, I was expecting my food to take a little longer than usual as I knew the kitchen was slammed. I was wrong as both plates of food arrived promptly after ordering.
So with that said, I give all the workers and servers at Creekside American Bistro two thumbs up.
Conclusion
Without hesitation, I would place Creekside American Bistro on my list of the best breakfast spots in Sedona. While I can’t speak for their lunch and dinner options, what I do know is their refined breakfast options are delicious and unique.
Where else can you find eggs Benedict topped with black truffles or shrimp & grits paired with pork belly? With delicious food, great service, and wonderful views of the red rocks from their outdoor deck, I would highly recommend Creekside American Bistro for breakfast, lunch, or dinner.
